Description
A cozy, family-favorite casserole made with tender chicken, savory stuffing, and a creamy sauce — the perfect weeknight comfort food that’s simple, hearty, and delicious.
Ingredients
- 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
- 1 (10.5-ounce) can cream of chicken soup
- 1 (10.5-ounce) can cream of mushroom or cream of celery soup
- 1 cup sour cream
- ½ cup milk or chicken broth
- 1 (6-ounce) box stuffing mix (like Stove Top)
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme or poultry seasoning
- Chopped parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine stuffing mix with melted butter and ½ cup hot water or chicken broth. Stir to moisten and set aside.
- In another bowl, mix together cream of chicken soup, cream of mushroom soup, sour cream, milk (or broth), garlic powder, pepper, and thyme until smooth.
- Place the chicken breasts in a single layer in the prepared baking dish.
- Spread the creamy soup mixture evenly over the chicken.
- Spoon the prepared stuffing evenly over the top of the chicken and sauce layer.
- Cover with foil and bake for 35 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15–20 minutes, or until the chicken is cooked through (internal temperature 165°F / 74°C) and the top is golden brown.
- Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.
Notes
- Use cooked, shredded rotisserie chicken for a faster version — reduce baking time to 25 minutes.
- Add steamed broccoli or green beans for a full one-pan meal.
- Try different stuffing flavors like herb-seasoned or cornbread for variety.
- This dish freezes well — assemble and freeze before baking for a make-ahead meal.
