Description

Creamy, spicy-sweet udon noodles tossed in a rich gochujang sauce with garlic and cream for a bold, comforting Korean-inspired noodle dish.


Ingredients

  • 14 oz (400 g) fresh or frozen udon noodles
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp gochujang (Korean chili paste)
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar or honey
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup reserved noodle cooking water
  • 1 tsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp sliced green onions
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds (optional)


Instructions

  1. Cook udon noodles according to package instructions; reserve 1/4 cup cooking water and drain noodles.
  2. Heat sesame oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add garlic and sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Stir in gochujang, soy sauce, sugar, and rice vinegar.
  5. Add heavy cream and reserved noodle water; whisk until smooth.
  6. Simmer sauce for 2–3 minutes until slightly thickened.
  7. Add cooked udon noodles and toss to coat evenly.
  8. Cook for 1–2 minutes until noodles are heated through.
  9. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds and serve hot.

Notes

  • Adjust gochujang for desired spice level.
  • Add mushrooms, spinach, or shrimp for extra texture.
  • Sauce thickens as it cools—serve immediately.
