Description
Crème Brûlée French Toast is a rich and indulgent breakfast dish featuring thick slices of bread soaked in a vanilla custard, baked until golden, and finished with a caramelized sugar topping reminiscent of classic crème brûlée.
Ingredients
- 1 loaf brioche or challah bread, sliced thick
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp corn syrup
- 5 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for topping)
Instructions
- Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a saucepan, melt butter with brown sugar and corn syrup, stirring until smooth.
- Pour the caramel mixture evenly into the bottom of the baking dish.
- Arrange bread slices tightly over the caramel layer.
- In a bowl, whisk eggs, heavy cream, milk, vanilla extract, and salt.
- Pour the custard mixture over the bread, pressing gently to soak.
- Cover and refrigerate overnight.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes until puffed and golden.
- Sprinkle granulated sugar evenly over the top and broil briefly until caramelized.
- Let cool slightly before serving.

- Overnight soaking yields the best texture.
- Watch carefully while broiling to avoid burning.
- Serve with fresh berries or whipped cream.
