Description

Crème Brûlée French Toast is a rich and indulgent breakfast dish featuring thick slices of bread soaked in a vanilla custard, baked until golden, and finished with a caramelized sugar topping reminiscent of classic crème brûlée.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf brioche or challah bread, sliced thick
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp corn syrup
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter with brown sugar and corn syrup, stirring until smooth.
  3. Pour the caramel mixture evenly into the bottom of the baking dish.
  4. Arrange bread slices tightly over the caramel layer.
  5. In a bowl, whisk eggs, heavy cream, milk, vanilla extract, and salt.
  6. Pour the custard mixture over the bread, pressing gently to soak.
  7. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
  8. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Bake uncovered for 40–45 minutes until puffed and golden.
  10. Sprinkle granulated sugar evenly over the top and broil briefly until caramelized.
  11. Let cool slightly before serving.
