Description

Delicious Cajun Chicken Sloppy Joes are a spicy, tangy twist on the classic sandwich — made with ground chicken, bell peppers, onions, and Cajun spices in a rich, saucy blend. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner packed with bold Louisiana-inspired flavors.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (optional)
  • 4 hamburger buns or brioche rolls
  • 1 tablespoon butter (for toasting buns)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add onion, green bell pepper, and red bell pepper. Sauté for 3–4 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add ground chicken and cook, breaking it apart, until browned and cooked through (about 6–8 minutes).
  5. Stir in Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well to coat the meat.
  6. Add tomato paste, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, and hot sauce. Stir and simmer for 5–7 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  7. Meanwhile, toast hamburger buns with butter in a separate pan until golden brown.
  8. Spoon the Cajun chicken mixture onto the buns, garnish with fresh parsley if desired, and serve hot.

Notes

  • Adjust Cajun seasoning to your spice preference.
  • For a creamy twist, top with coleslaw or melted cheese.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Use lettuce wraps for a low-carb alternative.
