Description

A cozy, homestyle casserole inspired by Dolly Parton’s classic Southern cooking — tender chicken baked with creamy sauce, savory stuffing, and comforting flavors in every bite.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 34 pieces)
  • 1 (10.5-ounce) can cream of chicken soup
  • 1 (10.5-ounce) can cream of celery or cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ½ cup milk or chicken broth
  • 1 (6-ounce) box stuffing mix (such as Stove Top)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, mix stuffing mix with melted butter and ½ cup of hot water or broth until combined but still slightly dry. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, combine cream of chicken soup, cream of celery soup, sour cream, milk (or broth), poultry seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until smooth.
  4. Place chicken breasts in the prepared baking dish in a single layer.
  5. Pour the creamy soup mixture evenly over the chicken.
  6. Spoon the prepared stuffing mixture evenly over the top.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and bake uncovered for an additional 15–20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the chicken is cooked through.
  8. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Use shredded rotisserie chicken for a quicker version — reduce baking time to 25 minutes.
  • Add sautéed celery, onions, or mushrooms for extra flavor and texture.
  • For a creamier casserole, mix ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese into the sauce.
  • Pairs perfectly with green beans or cranberry sauce for a true Southern comfort meal.
