Description
Frosted Coffee Brownies are rich, fudgy brownies infused with bold coffee flavor and topped with a creamy espresso frosting — the perfect dessert for coffee and chocolate lovers alike.
Ingredients
- For the Brownies:
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 8 ounces semisweet chocolate, chopped (or chocolate chips)
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons brewed coffee (strong)
- ¾ cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- For the Frosting:
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon instant coffee granules (dissolved in 1 tablespoon hot water)
- 1–2 tablespoons milk or cream (as needed for consistency)
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper and lightly grease.
- In a heatproof bowl, melt butter and chocolate together over a double boiler (or in the microwave in 30-second intervals), stirring until smooth. Let cool slightly.
- Whisk in granulated sugar, brown sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, and brewed coffee until combined.
- Sift in flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gently fold until just combined — do not overmix.
- Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs. Do not overbake.
- Let brownies cool completely in the pan before frosting.
- Make the Frosting: In a bowl, beat butter until creamy. Add powdered sugar, dissolved coffee, vanilla, and 1 tablespoon milk. Beat until smooth and fluffy, adding more milk if needed for a spreadable consistency.
- Spread frosting evenly over the cooled brownies. Chill for 10–15 minutes to set before slicing.
- Serve and enjoy with a hot cup of coffee!
Notes
- For a stronger coffee flavor, add 1 teaspoon espresso powder to the brownie batter.
- Replace milk in the frosting with cream for a richer texture.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
