Description

This One Bowl Chocolate Cake is rich, moist, and incredibly easy to make — all mixed in a single bowl with simple pantry ingredients for a perfect chocolate treat every time.

Ingredients

  • 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water (or hot coffee for deeper flavor)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans or one 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until combined.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes until smooth.
  4. Stir in the boiling water (or coffee). The batter will be thin — that’s normal.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pan(s).
  6. Bake for 30–35 minutes (for round pans) or 35–40 minutes (for a 9×13-inch pan), or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then remove to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting or serving.

Notes

  • Use hot coffee instead of water for a richer chocolate flavor.
  • This cake pairs beautifully with chocolate ganache or cream cheese frosting.
  • Can be made into cupcakes — bake for 18–20 minutes.
