Ingredients
- 1 unbaked pie crust (9-inch)
- 1 lb (450 g) breakfast sausage
- 1 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups milk
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella or Monterey Jack cheese
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/4 tsp paprika
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F).
- In a skillet over medium heat, cook sausage until browned; remove half and set aside.
- Add butter to remaining sausage drippings, sprinkle in flour, and cook for 1 minute.
- Gradually whisk in milk and simmer until thickened to make sausage gravy; season with salt and pepper.
- Spread reserved cooked sausage evenly over the pie crust.
- Sprinkle shredded cheeses over the sausage.
- In a bowl, whisk eggs with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder.
- Pour egg mixture over the filling.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes until the quiche is set and lightly golden.
- Slice quiche and spoon warm sausage gravy over each serving.
Notes
- Let quiche rest 10 minutes before slicing.
- Sausage gravy can be made ahead and reheated.
- Serve with a fresh green salad for balance.
